Get Closer!

The problem I see most often from amateur work is it's just too removed! Zoom lenses are great, but they do not convey the same feeling as physically getting closer to your subject - the way a zoom lens presents distance is radically different from physically moving.

Move as close as you can to your subject in order to fill the viewfinder. Do so will result in less background clutter and will allow you to enhance the details of the intended subject.
